Have you ever felt like your head was spinning and you felt anxious or stress? Well, there are plenty of ‘relieve stress techniques’ to reduce your stress.
Stress is a mental and emotional tension that results from demanding events or circumstances. When you force yourself to do something that leads to near deadlines, it can lead you feeling negative.
As a teenager who has school and growing a business, it can be pretty stressful once you realise that with school being dished up with information that you got to remember the last year exams and business circling up and down while you try to fix things, it can quite irritating and depressing.
Just before writing this post, I’ve taken literally 8 hours (yes, 8 H.O.U.R.S) to complete my school work. Was that worth it? Definitely yes and no! I finally got it down but then I get this huge headache just from that stress. Urgh!
But there are always ways to refill your energy and be refreshed after doing a few self-care things. Here are 10 techniques you can relieve stress.
So grab your mug of coffee or tea and let’s get right into it!
The first techniques to relieve stress, it’s exercise. Ok ok I know there are some lazy people out there who don’t feel like going out and jumping around but it’s not all those gym fitness things. You can literally just go for a walk, jog, run, ride a bike, swim etc. Anything that involves moving your body is exercise.
When you exercise, your body releases endorphins (chemicals that improve your mood) and are pretty much like painkillers except doing it in a natural way. Oh yeah, did I mention that it can improve your sleep quality and self-esteem?
I didn’t do much exercise back in those days and I had like crazy insomnia where I slept either at 1 am in the morning or even 4 am! Now that I finally went out of my way to go outside and take a walk in the neighbourhood, I literally feel connected to nature.

I suggest lighting up candle/s. Scented candles work best since it creates an emotional effect in our system by relaxing.
Scents like apple, lavender, apple & cinnamon, rose, lemon, vanilla, orange and more. My favourite is apple & vanilla.
But how does a candle reduce our stress? Well, the candle’s flame that creates soft illumination helps to soothe our sensitive soul as well as increase self-awareness by calming our self down. Another thing is that those people who make scented candles infused them with aromatherapy oils, creating different feelings and emotions.
Pretty much like meditation you know? I light up a scented candle every now and then when I have to study at night to give me a calming and motivating feeling that gets me through.

Hey! Don’t be scared! I’m not saying to quit coffee or tea. If I did, I wouldn’t have said “grab a cup of tea or coffee” earlier. Let’s keep a secret. I’m quite a coffee and tea addict so I would never do that to them! All I’m saying is take at least 5 or fewer cups per day (which is the moderate amount).
Caffeine stays in your system for up to 8 hours (don’t drink before bed kids!). They are found in tea, coffee, chocolate, and energy drinks but if you took high doses of caffeine, it will cause you to feel jittery, fatigued, depressed, anxious, nausea, the feeling of an empty stomach and of course, increases stress (I hate those feelings!). It pretty much injects adrenaline into your system, giving you a temporary boost.
If you want to stay awake longer, I suggest eating a juicy apple. I heard it helps you stay up longer and it’s much healthier.
When I feel stress, I have all these continuous things coming through my jumbling mind, causing me to stress even more! That’s why journaling is one of the top techniques to relieve stress. Thank god journals are cheap.
Now every day, just after my morning meditation, I journal everything that had happened the day before and leave it be. By doing this and writing down everything on your mind, you’re helping your mind relieve stress and anxiety as well as identify your problems that can be resolved. As well as keep secrets and struggles (wink).

What? Chewing gum? Yes, research says that people who chewed gum had a greater sense of well-being and lower stress. Theory shows that chewing gum causes brain waves similar to those of relaxed people as well as promote blood flow to the brain.
While chewing gum stimulates the sense of smell, taste, and touch, it has been shown to increase alertness and improve mood. Incredible right?
Recently, I’ve found out that I feel more relaxed and can remember the information better while I studied for a test rather than not have chewed a pack of gum at all! Woo for my grades improving!
Did you know that when you talk with someone, you feel like your stress is gone? I mean, it’s better than sitting in a room and trapping your stress in. Or becoming a Sim going crazy when they have no social interaction.
When you chat with friends or family, you feel a sense of belonging and self-worth because you’re releasing oxytocin (aka love hormone), giving you the effect called the “tend and befriend”. Pretty much the opposite of the fight-or-flight response (which is what your stress is).
Researched studies show that men and women with the fewest social connections were more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety (aka me because I’m an introvert). So go out there, meet a friend, hang out with your fam or cuddle with a partner (cause that works too) and have fun socialising!

There are plenty of things that can make you laugh like those humorous videos on YouTube or that cat photo that you’re dying over with giggles. And it’s free!
If you laugh, you’ll be able to bring more oxygen into your body and organs, relieving stress and tension by relaxing the muscles. But how? Endorphins are released and promote an overall sense of self-wellbeing and can temporarily relieve pain. Being cheerful helps your immune system and boost mood as well, keeping you focused and alerted.
Research says that people with cancer found that people in the laughter intervention group experienced more stress relief than those who were simply distracted. So when you stress, take a break and laugh at something funny. It will definitely make your day by defusing all that anger and irritation.
Learning to say “NO”
Do you know why you get stress? It’s because you accept things out of guiltiness. When was the last time someone made you do a favour for them and you had too many plans but all in kindness, you accept it? With all those plans and quest to do stuff for others, you’re causing yourself to feel overwhelmed and stress, which could lead you getting sick and burnt out.
It’s not a bad thing to say no. Don’t ever think that saying no makes you feel like the worst person in the world because you’re not! Saying no is literally like helping your body.
When you say no, you’ll be able to finish other important things in time without the feeling of stressing the frick out! Do you know what the best feeling in the world is? The feeling of finally taking a break after completing your to-do list!
But why do you procrastinate? It’s because you want to find the easy route way out of the hard way. You are in control of your body, mind, and future so you need to take responsibilities for your actions. If you leave things for the last minute, you’ll have lots of things on your plate and that will lead to stress.
The best thing to do is prioritise your time, add tasks to your planner, make realistic deadlines from most important down to least important and to do it now!
Not motivated to do it? Try watching an inspiring video or two on YouTube like TedTalks or try some of my suggestions for creative YouTubers you should watch. Read things on that type of subject that is motivating, read motivation quotes even. One of the ways I go out of my way to procrastinating is to think realistically about my future and what the outcome will be if I just left it for the next day and day after. Of course, it will be a negative outcome.
Isn’t that how hard-working people happened to succeed? Guys, we only have little time to make the most of it.

I like to mention that mindfulness aka meditation is one of the best methods for self-care and relieving negative emotions.
By being mindful, can help lower stress, decrease inflammation in the body, relieve anxiety effects of negative thinking, recognise the problems in our lives and paying more attention to the present moment. My clear explanation of meditating is detoxing and refreshing your mind (like a computer all most).
I like to meditate in the morning every day since it’s quiet (everyone still is sleeping), helps me start the day fresh and be more aware of the present moment.
